How Far in Advance Should You Book a Wake Boat Rental?

There's a fixed number of premium summer Saturdays — here's exactly how early to reserve so you get the lake, the time, and the calm water you want.

The short answer

It depends on the day you want. For a summer Saturday or Sunday, book about two to three weeks ahead. For a holiday weekend — the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day — give it four to six weeks, because those dates fill first. Weekdays stay far more open, so a few days' notice is often plenty.

Booking earlier doesn't just guarantee a slot — it locks your preferred lake, your start time, and the glassy early-morning water that the most experienced groups grab first.

Wake runs one beautiful boat — a 2023 Tige Z3 — and delivers it to the marina on whichever North Texas lake you pick. That's great for you (a premium boat, a real captain, and all the gear included) but it also means a single Saturday can only go out so many times. When a sunny July weekend rolls around, the popular morning slots go quickly. The good news: a little planning is all it takes to get exactly the day you're picturing. Here's how to time it.

How early to book, by the day you want

Use this as a quick rule of thumb. The busier and more specific your date, the further ahead you'll want to reserve.

When you want to goBook this far aheadWhy
Holiday weekend (July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day)4–6 weeksThe busiest dates of the year — they fill first
Summer Saturday or Sunday2–3 weeksPeak demand June–September; mornings go fastest
Weekday (Mon–Thu)A few daysMuch more open — the easiest day to get on short notice
A specific sunrise / glassy-water slot2–4 weeksCalm morning water is the most-requested time
Big group or special occasion3–6 weeksLocks the date everyone's coordinating around

These are planning guidelines, not hard cutoffs — some weekends open up late and some fill early. The fastest way to know is to check your date with us. When it's open, grabbing it early is always the safer call.

Why earlier is better (three real reasons)

Booking ahead gets you…

  • Your first-choice date. Summer weekends are the scarcest thing we have. Reserve early and you're not negotiating around what's left.
  • The calm morning water. North Texas lakes are usually glassiest right after sunrise, before wind and other boats build chop — the smoothest surf and wakeboard water of the day. Those early slots book first.
  • Time to plan the day. Lock the boat, then sort out the crew, the cooler, and which lake works best for everyone — no scramble.

Planning last minute? You've still got options

Didn't plan weeks out? Don't write off the trip — a lot of great days get booked on short notice. If your first pick is taken, try these:

  1. Look at a weekday. Monday through Thursday is the easiest time to get on the water with little notice — same boat, same all-inclusive rate, fewer crowds.
  2. Go early. A sunrise or mid-morning start is often open even when the afternoon is full — and it's the calmest water anyway.
  3. Be flexible on the lake. We serve eight North Texas lakes. If Grapevine is booked, Lewisville, Ray Roberts, or Cedar Creek might be wide open the same day.
  4. Just ask. Tell us your ideal date and a backup or two, and we'll tell you exactly what's available. Sometimes the slot you want is one quick message away.

What you need to book

Booking is quick — there's no membership and no deposit puzzle to solve. You'll pick three things:

To reserve a trip, just choose…

  • Your lake — Possum Kingdom, Lewisville, Grapevine, Texoma, Ray Roberts, Ray Hubbard, Cedar Creek, or Tawakoni. We bring the boat to the marina you pick.
  • Your date and start time — earlier in the day means the calmest water.
  • Captained or self-drive — captained ($275/hour, up to 12) means you just show up; self-drive ($225/hour, up to 10) is for experienced surf-boat drivers.

That's it. The boat, surfboards, wakeboards, tube, and life jackets are already included — just bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, water, and snacks.

The best stretch of the season to plan around

Demand in North Texas runs from June through September, and the single biggest weekend is the Fourth of July — in 2026 it lands on a Saturday, making it a full three-day peak. If a holiday-weekend trip is on your list, treat four to six weeks out as the sweet spot. Quieter shoulder weeks in early June and September are easier to grab and just as much fun on the water. Either way, the rule holds: the date you really want is the one to lock early.

What it costs

A captained boat is $275/hour (up to 12 guests) with free coaching for the whole group. Prefer to drive yourself? Self-drive is $225/hour (up to 10 guests, experienced drivers). Want a focused first lesson? Lessons are $275/hour (up to 8 people, two-hour minimum). Gas is billed separately at cost — nothing else is extra. Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book a wake boat rental?

For a summer weekend, about two to three weeks ahead. For a holiday weekend like the Fourth of July, four to six weeks. For a weekday, a few days is usually enough. Booking earlier locks your lake, your start time, and the calm morning water that goes first.

How early should I book for the Fourth of July?

Four to six weeks ahead. In 2026 the Fourth is a Saturday, so it's a full three-day peak weekend and the busiest stretch of the year — the dates that fill first.

Can I book a boat last minute?

Often, yes — especially on weekdays and mornings. If your first-choice date is taken, being flexible on the lake, the day, or an early start time usually opens up a great option. Just reach out and we'll tell you what's available.

What's the best time of day to go out?

Early morning. The water is usually glassiest right after sunrise, before wind and other boats build chop — the smoothest surf and wakeboard water of the day. Those slots book first on busy weekends.

Do I need to pay a deposit or join anything to book?

No membership and no separate deposit puzzle — you just pick your lake, date, time, and whether you want a captain, and reserve your trip. Everything but gas is included in the hourly rate.
